Position Description:
The Maintenance Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the efficiency, safety, and reliability of the company’s fleet and maintenance shop. This role applies technical knowledge to manage and troubleshoot complex electrical systems, optimize maintenance operations, and improve overall fleet performance and reliability.
- Oversee daily maintenance shop operations to ensure maximum fleet uptime and efficiency.
- Develop and implement comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance programs based on analysis of vehicle performance data, failure trends, and manufacturer specifications.
- Analyze diagnostic data, maintenance records, and telematics to identify root causes of mechanical failures and implement corrective actions to improve fleet reliability.
- Evaluate the performance and lifecycle of fleet assets, including trucks and trailers, and recommend repair, replacement, or upgrade strategies based on cost-benefit and operational impact analyses.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations governing commercial vehicles, including inspection, safety, and maintenance standards.
- Design and optimize maintenance workflows, scheduling systems, and resource allocation to reduce downtime and increase operational efficiency.
- Oversee and coordinate maintenance activities performed by internal staff and external vendors, ensuring adherence to technical standards and service quality requirements.
- Review and interpret Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) and maintenance data to prioritize and manage repair activities.
- Develop and monitor maintenance-related key performance indicators (KPIs), including cost per mile, equipment utilization, and failure rates.
- Collaborate with operations and dispatch teams to align maintenance planning with business demands and fleet utilization goals.
- Provide technical guidance and training to drivers and maintenance personnel regarding equipment operation, inspection procedures, and issue reporting.
- Direct drivers’ training, testing, and supervision.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical field
- 2 years of experience in transportation industry
- Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA compliance and safety regulations
- Experience with inspections, maintenance reporting, and breakdown procedures
- Understanding of fleet equipment and mechanical issues
